The DeFake team went to the Human Computer Interaction Consortium (HCIC) workshop at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado, from June 14 to 18, 2026. The venue sits at the foot of the Rocky Mountains next to Rocky Mountain National Park, which made for a memorable setting. This year’s theme was AI’s Impact on Society, a natural fit for the questions we care about around synthetic media and how people make sense of it. The team presented three posters.
Poster presentations
- Ishmam Bin Rofi, Y. Kelly Wu, Saniat Sohrawardi, Matthew Wright and Ersin Uzun. The Story They Tell Themselves.
- Palavi V. Bhole, Matthew Wright and Ersin Uzun. How Users Notice, Interpret, and (Don’t) Use AI Transparency Signals.
- Y. Kelly Wu, Saniat J. Sohrawardi, Ersin Uzun and Matthew Wright. The Techniques are Ready. Is the Vocabulary?
Between sessions we took in some of the Rockies, and a few local squirrels got a little too friendly.
